Se riuscirai a sognare ed a non fare del sogno il tuo padrone; Se riuscirai a pensare ed a non fare del pensiero il tuo scopo;

Se saprai far fronte al TRIONFO ed alla ROVINA e trattare allo stesso modo questi due impostori;

Se sopporterai di udire la verità che hai detto distorta da furfanti per abbindolare gli ingenui, o contemplare le cose cui hai dedicato la vita, spezzate, e piegarti a ricostruirle con utensili rotti;

Se riuscirai a fare un mucchio di tutte le tue vincite e rischiarle in un sol colpo a testa e croce, e perdere e ricominciare dal principio e non dir parola sulla tua perdita;

Se saprai costringere cuore e tendini e nervi a servire la tua volontà anche quando sono sfiniti, ed a resistere quando in te non resta altro che la volontà che dice loro "RESISTETE!"

Se saprai parlare con le folle, conservarti eretto e passeggiare con il Re e non perdere la semplicità;

Se nè i nemici nè gli amici più cari riusciranno ad offenderti;

Se tutti conteranno per te, ma nessuno troppo; Se riuscirai ad occupare il minuto inesorabile, dando valore ad ogni istante che passa.
